It appears Cam Newton has cooled off a little bit since Sunday.
He posted an encouraging message on Instagram that centered around this phrase: “A wise man once said It won’t be easy. … But it will damn sure be worth it.”
Newton did not have many positive things to say Sunday. The Carolina Panthers lost to the New Orleans Saints 41-38 after digging themselves an early hole. By the second quarter, they were down 21-0, but fought back furiously to try and avoid a 1-5 start. They even scored 21 points in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough.
The Panthers quarterback cut his press conference short, walking out after 90 seconds. He has struggled with injuries and inconsistent play, but he was solid Sunday. Newton went 27 of 47 for 322 yards, 2 touchdowns and an interception. However, the Panthers pass defense has been suspect all season, and they may have been worse against the Saints than they were two weeks ago when they gave up 300 yards receiving to Julio Jones. Drew Brees threw for 465 yards, 4 touchdowns and an interception.
