The new Denver Broncos starting quarterback definitely has one fan.
Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer reports that Carolina Panthers star linebacker Luke Kuechly likes what he sees so far from Trevor Siemian. “I think he’s confident. He’s smart. He doesn’t appear like he’s a guy that gets rattled easily. He looks very comfortable,” Kuechly said to Person. “That’s something as a quarterback that’s good to have. For us we’re going to have to do a good job making him as uncomfortable as we can.”
Kuechly has been going over limited tape on the young quarterback while trying to prepare for the Panthers home opener on Thursday night against the Broncos. However, he also told Person that won’t be looking at footage from while Siemian was at Northwestern.
Both Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak and Panthers quarterback Cam Newton have said that this game is not a rematch of the Super Bowl. They make a good point. There are significant faces no longer on either team.
Josh Norman is now with the Washington Redskins and Peyton Manning is a full-time DirecTV and Papa John’s spokesperson. But that shouldn’t, and won’t, take away from the public’s desire to see this game. Obviously everyone is happy that football has returned, but the matchups are still juicy.
Cam Newton vs. Von Miller, a healthy Kelvin Benjamin against Aqib Talib and Siemian against the Panthers defense, are some of the many intriguing battles that will be taking place on the field Thursday.
So while the some of the names may be different, this game will be absolutely be an excellent kickoff for the 2016 NFL season.
