The Dallas Cowboys defense will be short-handed against the New York Giants on Sunday.
They have ruled out defensive lineman David Irving, cornerback Orlando Scandrick and linebacker Justin Durant. Irving suffered a concussion during the Cowboys’ Thursday Night Football matchup against the Washington Redskins, and the 10 days since haven’t given him enough time to clear concussion protocol.
Durant practiced on a limited basis Thursday and Friday, but has also not cleared concussion protocol. He was inactive against Washington.
Scandrick went down during that game with two transverse fractures in his back. He has not practiced this week.
Of course, the Giants’ injury situation is worse, with wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandon Marshall out since suffering season-ending injuries in Week 5, but the Cowboys are the team in desperate need of a victory. They have a 6-6 record, and are currently the fourth team out of the NFC playoff picture.
To have a chance at the playoffs, they cannot lose another game this season. The Giants may only have 2 wins, but it is still a road game for the Cowboys against a division rival.
The Cowboys should win, but that is far from a sure thing.
