Cowboys DE DeMarcus Lawrence staring down fine after going off on refs

Dallas Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence is set to earn a massive raise this offseason as the NFL sack leader approaches free agency, but he’s going to be a little lighter in the pocket temporarily after their game against the New York Giants on Sunday.

Lawrence was held sackless for the fourth time in the last six games in a 30-10 victory and he thought he was being held regularly against the Giants. Afterward, he went off on officials and made a statement that will almost certainly get him fined.

“F*** the refs, and that’s all I got to say,” Lawrence said according to Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News.

Lawrence has 13.5 sacks on the year in the final season of his rookie contract. And just about every sack he makes at this point adds to the value he’ll be able to command in the offseason.

More importantly, the Cowboys defense is dependent on getting pressure from the front four to win football games. So it’s understandable that he’d feel frustrated if he’s being held routinely and kept from making a meaningful impact on the game by blown calls.

However, any leeway he might have to make critical comments about the officiating goes out the window when you make blanket statements like, “F*** the refs.” Even worse, you certainly don’t curry any favor with the officials in the remaining three games by insulting the entire profession.
