Several Dallas Cowboys were not able to take the practice field on Wednesday.
Defensive ends DeMarcus Lawrence (back) and Benson Mayowa (back), starting tackles Tyron Smith (back/knee) and La’el Collins (back), defensive lineman David Irving (concussion) and linebacker Anthony Hitchens (knee) did not participate at practice, per the injury report.
Irving has missed the two consecutive games since going into concussion protocol, and Smith had to leave the field on Sunday night against Oakland Raiders with a right knee injury. He did not return to the field.
As long as the Cowboys continue to win, each remaining regular-season game will be their most important of the season. Their next most important game is on Christmas Eve against the Seattle Seahawks.
If the Cowboys win that game, they will move ahead of the Seahawks in the NFC standings, and be at worst the second team out of the NFC playoff picture.
However, even though the Seahawks are struggling, if all five players who didn’t practice on Wednesday can’t play on Sunday the Cowboys will have a hard time pulling out a necessary win against a team that needs the game just as badly.
