Cowboys RT La’el Collins expected to play against Redskins on Thursday

Dallas Cowboys right tackle La’el Collins was unable to participate in practice this week, but that’s apparently not stopping him from giving it a go on Thursday Night Football against the Washington Redskins.

According to a report from Todd Archer of ESPN.com, Collins is expected to dress on Thursday night and he will be in the starting lineup.

The third-year player from LSU was originally listed as questionable with a back injury. Instead, he’ll make his 12th consecutive start at right tackle for the Cowboys.

Originally slated as a first-round pick at the 2015 NFL Draft, but his name coming up in a murder investigation caused some confusion and his stock plummeted. He’d go on to sign as an undrafted free agent and was never truly a suspect in the murder investigation.

The Cowboys gave him an unprecedented three-year guaranteed contract as a UFA and moved him inside to guard on their loaded offensive line. Collins made 14 starts on the interior in his first two seasons with the organization while battling various injuries but was back outside to tackle when Doug Free unexpectedly announced his retirement in the offseason.

Collins has struggled in his first year back on the outside, earning a poor 45.7 grade from Pro Football Focus. That ranks him 62nd among all eligible tackles in the NFL.

However, the Cowboys still see enormous potential in the 24-year-old and they’re certainly happy to have him available against the Redskins.
