That could force them out of the Sunday matchup against the Arizona Cardinals or slow them considerably.
Williams has been bothered by his left ankle injury since last week, but he was able to play against the Denver Broncos, making 4 catches for 17 yards. Meanwhile, Butler suffered his ankle injury at practice on Thursday and was limited on Friday.
The Williams injury is concerning because he previously had been listed as a full participant at practice on Thursday but wasn’t able to go on Friday. That would seem to indicate he may have aggravated the injury.
Williams is now in his fifth season and hasn’t missed a game in his career. Butler also has been durable lately, appearing in 18 consecutive games for the Cowboys.
We’ll know Williams’ and Butler’s official game status by 3 p.m. CT on Sunday because the Cowboys and Cardinals play on Monday Night Football. That gives both players an extra day to get healthy, and there is a decent chance both will be able to play.
However, how effective either will be is in question. Having their No. 2 and No. 4 wide receivers not operating at full speed would test the Cowboys’ depth at the position.
