The Dallas Cowboys still don’t know for sure whether running back Ezekiel Elliott will be suspended for the first six games of the 2017 season and coach Jason Garrett isn’t sure whether Elliott will play during the annual dress rehearsal Saturday night.
Garrett said Elliott’s looming suspension isn’t a factor in his decision, but said Elliott would get only eight-to-10 snaps if he suits up Saturday night against the Oakland Raiders, according to The Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s Clarence Hill Jr.
Backup Darren McFadden has seen the bulk of the workload during the preseason. He rushed six times for 28 yards two weeks ago against the Rams and carried the ball 9 times for 59 yards last week against the Indianapolis Colts.
The Cowboys need to get used to life without Elliott in case the worst-case scenario occurs in his appeals process. Elliott was suspended for violation of the league’s personal conduct policy and be preparing for a long battle with the league.
