Jimmy Johnson has changed his mind on the Dallas Cowboys looming Dak Prescott vs. Tony Romo quarterback battle.
Johnson, who led Dallas to a pair of Super Bowl championships as a head coach, weighed in on the Romo vs. Prescott debate during Sunday’s Fox NFL Pre-Game Show.
“Initially I was for Romo. But watching Prescott against Cincinnati, it’s his football team. Romo should be the best, most talented, most expensive backup in the league. Romo can make big plays but sometimes those big plays they are for the other team,” Johnson said, as transcribed by the Dallas Morning News.
“Lack of practice time, the injury situation those big plays are going to be multiplied for the other team. He should be on the bench and come off the bench…Prescott is the perfect guy for this team. He is a running threat. He’s healthy. He protects the football. He keeps that defense out of bad situations.”
All of the panelists looked at the situation with a pro-Prescott approach, while Michael Strahan pointed out that Prescott’s success has been key to the success of Ezekiell Elliott.
“Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott these guys are like a unit now. This a package…If you are a teammate and you are in that lockeroom you are looking at Tony and you are looking at Dak you’re going hmmm. I don’t know…He is our leader now. This is our guy now. You put Romo in there and I think you upset (the package deal).”
