Denver Broncos wide receiver Bennie Fowler is getting a huge opportunity with Emmanuel Sanders out on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.
He’ll be the No. 2 receiver behind Demaryius Thomas and, while he’d never wish ill upon a teammate, he knows what’s at stake.
“I don’t ever want to see my teammates getting injured but this is an opportunity for me to step up this week, as well as Sunshine and Hunter Sharp,’’ Fowler told Mike Klis of 9News in Denver. “I don’t know if I’ll get more attention. They have to pay attention to every receiver out there so I’m going to play my game and not try to go out there and try to do too much and do what I’ve been doing the whole season.’’
Fowler is already approaching his career-high in receptions (16) with 13 catches heading into Sunday. And he’ll likely be targeted frequently with Sanders out.
What he does with those targets might impact how he’s used moving forward and will, more importantly, have an important impact on how the Broncos function offensively.
