There is concerning news out of Denver, and it has nothing to do with the loss the Broncos sustained on Sunday. Tony Renck for ABC7 in Denver reports that head coach Gary Kubiak left Mile High Stadium in an ambulance after the game due to flu-like symptoms. The departure is described as precautionary and Kubiak is being evaluated.
For the time being, the key information here is the ambulance ride was a precaution. It’s likely that getting Kubiak to a medical attention by way of emergency vehicle was simply the fastest means to get him there, as leaving any sports complex after a game can be difficult and time consuming. While it may very well be nothing more than a flu, there was no reason to wait when an escort was available.
It is a situation to monitor nonetheless, as Kubiak has had serious health issues in the past. Any head coaching job is demanding, especially in the NFL, and the stress can certainly exacerbate existing issues or trigger new ones.
