No one may be more upset about the Denver Broncos’ sixth consecutive loss than running back C.J. Anderson.
The Broncos had the ball and were down 13-10 early in the fourth quarter against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. They already produced one first down on the drive when Anderson carried the ball on second-and-8. He met up with Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict, who forced a fumble that was recovered by safety Shawn Williams.
The Bengals then went on a six-play drive that ended with an A.J. Green receiving touchdown to put Cincinnati ahead, 20-10. The Broncos scored a touchdown on the next drive but ended up losing the game, 20-17.
After the game, Anderson couldn’t hold in his emotions as talked about the play in a NSFW way through tears.
“[Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy] said I’ve been playing my ass off all year, don’t let that one play, I didn’t lose the game,” Anderson said, via CBS Denver’s Ryan Greene. “I hear Mike, but I’m not feeling that. I don’t do that than A.J. don’t score; who knows how the outcome turns?
“That’s just on me man. That s— hurts. That s— hurts. I put my heart and soul in this.”
In one way it’s nice to see a player care that much about his performance, but it’s also sad to see him react that way when this losing streak is far from his fault.
