Von Miller added heat to the Kirk Cousins-to-Denver talk.
The Denver Broncos outside linebacker got an up-close view of Cousins in Week 16. Cousins performed well in a 27-11 Washington Redskins win over the Broncos. The Redskins quarterback went 19-of-37 passing for 299 yards to go with 3 touchdowns and 1 interception.
What did Miller take away from the Christmas Eve game? The Broncos need a quarterback like Cousins.
“Kirk’s a great quarterback,” Miller said after the loss, per the team’s official website. “I’ll say that every day of the week. A lot of teams would kill to have a quarterback like that. He just came out and he was playing great. At first, he was a little shaky but back to typical Kirk Cousins in the second half.”
Washington put the franchise tag on Cousins for the second straight year prior to the season. He is set to become an unrestricted free agent when this year ends, and it is expected he won’t have a shortage of suitors.
The San Francisco 49ers were considered a front-runner before trading for Jimmy Garoppolo, who appears to be their quarterback of the future. Now a return to Washington or a move to Denver seem to be the leading destinations for Cousins.
Miller’s words only escalated matters. What we do know for sure: The Broncos need an upgrade at quarterback.
