Whoever starts at quarterback for the Denver Broncos on Sunday against the Washington Redskins between Paxton Lynch and Brock Osweiler will be throwing passes to an undermanned receiving corps.
The Broncos announced Saturday that Emmanuel Sanders and Cody Latimer will not play on Sunday because of injuries, and also did not travel with the team to Washington.
Sanders has been dealing with an ankle injury since the Broncos’ Week 6 loss to the New York Giants, and it caused him to miss Week 7 and Week 8. He did not practice on Wednesday and Thursday, but he was a limited participant on Friday. This season most likely will be the first that Sanders hasn’t totaled 1,000-plus yards receiving since he last played for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2013. He has 555 yards in 2017.
Latimer was a limited participant in practice with a thigh injury on Wednesday and Thursday. However, he was unable to participate at all Friday.
If Lynch is indeed the Broncos’ starter on Sunday, he will have to prove himself as the team’s potential quarterback of the future in much less than ideal circumstances.
