DeMarcus Ware kept it short and sweet when telling reporters about his health going into the Denver Broncos’ season opener against the Carolina Panthers.
“I’m healthy, I’m ready,” Ware said according to the Broncos’ Twitter account.

Ware also complimented Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, saying was “one of those complete quarterbacks.” But he again showed his eagerness to play when he talked about playing against Newton. “He’s a quarterback that has a jersey on,” Ware told reporters, according to Zac Stevens of Mile High Sports. “I mean, if you had a jersey on I’d sack you, too.”
Denver head coach Gary Kubiak did not speak with Ware’s confidence when addressing the linebacker’s health..
[Demarcus Ware] is fine,” Kubiak said to reporters, according to the Broncos’ Twitter account. “Not going to go out and [do] too much. … We’ll put a play count on him.”
Ware was sidelined with a back injury that cost him five games during the 2015 regular season. He wasn’t 100 percent during the Super Bowl.
“I was probably playing at 70 percent in the Super Bowl, still trying to be a little bit effective. Now I feel like I’m 94 percent,” Ware told to the Associated Press, referring to his jersey number. “I feel great.”
He finally returned to practice on August 21, but did not play during the preseason. The Broncos hope he can stay on the field and be productive enough that opposing offensive lines can’t key on All-Pro linebacker Von Miller.
If he can do that, the Broncos defense should come close the excellence shown by last year’s Super Bowl championship unit.
