Denver Broncos legend Simon Fletcher couldn’t help but praise Von Miller at his Broncos Ring of Fame induction ceremony. In fact, Denver’s all-time leader in sacks gave Miller the ultimate praise.
Fletcher finished his career with 97.5 sacks, and while Miller is still 30 sacks away from breaking Fletcher’s record, the 11-year pro said Miller is already better than him.
“It means a lot, but since 2013 when I was first asked the question by (Denver Post reporter) Terry Frei, I said Von Miller,” Fletcher said, per a press release. “He is, in my mind, the Broncos best pass rusher ever and if he can stay healthy and keep doing what he’s doing, sooner or later Von Miller is going to prove me right.
Miller is certainly on pace to shatter Fletcher’s number. If Miller continues on this torrid pace, he could break Fletcher’s record in a couple more seasons. But Fletcher won’t be disappointed if Miller breaks his franchise sack record. In fact, Fletcher’s reaction would be quite the contrary.
“Then, that will be the happiest day of my life besides today because records are meant to be broken,” Fletcher admitted. “If Rick Jackson, if Lyle Alzado, Barney Chavous and Rulan Jones, if Karl Mecklenburg hadn’t consistently set new benchmarks, then 97.5 would mean absolutely nothing.”
