The Atlanta Falcons selected Maponga in the fifth round (No. 153 overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft. The former TCU Horned Frog appeared in 24 regular season games for the Falcons from 2013-2014, and two regular season games for the New York Giants in 2015.
He was waived by the Giants in early September during final cuts, and was later signed to the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad. The Cowboys released Maponga from their practice squad in early November.
Denver had a practice squad spot open up when they promoted rookie tight end Austin Traylor to their active roster prior to their Week 11 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. The addition of Maponga bring the Broncos back up to the limit of 10 practice squad players on their roster.
Maponga has the versatility to compete for playing time at both defensive end and outside linebacker, and he has plenty of experience playing special teams.
