Former Denver Broncos defensive end Quanterus Smith was arrested earlier this month and charged with armed robbery after he allegedly robbed an AT&T store at gunpoint.
Video published to YouTube on Monday allegedly shows the ensuing high-speed chase with police.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on Aug. 11 that Smith and 22-year-old Brandon Byse of Atlanta allegedly demanded money and took iPhones at a store on Thornton Road in Douglas County, Georgia. Police spotted the two in a car a short distance from the scene of the alleged crime. They fled when sheriff’s deputies tried to pull them over.
The police were able to stop the car by performing a PIT maneuver, which involves bumping the car in an effort to make it stop. After the car was stopped, both men were taken into custody without incident.
Smith was a fifth-round pick of the Broncos in the 2013 NFL Draft. He stayed in Denver for two seasons, playing in 15 games and making 11 tackles during the 2014 season before being released in 2015.
He went on to spend time on the New York Jets practice squad in 2015 and spent part of the 2016 offseason with the Detroit Lions. He participated in the spring league this year in hopes of rejuvenating his career.
