A pair of injuries occurred for the San Diego Chargers during the first half of their third preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings.
First, right tackle Joe Barksdale left the game in the second quarter and was evaluated on the sidelines after sustaining what appeared to be a leg injury after teammate Orlando Franklin fell onto his leg while in pass protection. USA Today’s Tom Pelissero reports Barksdale sustained an ankle injury on the play, but the severity of the injury is unknown.
Later in the same quarter, third-string running back Branden Oliver was carted off the field after sustaining a non-contact injury on a screen pass. The Chargers announced that Oliver would miss the rest of the game with an Achilles injury. NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reports Oliver tore his Achilles tendon.

Barksdale signed a four-year extension this offseason after starting all 16 games for the Chargers during his first campaign in San Diego. He was viewed as an instrumental player on a rebuilding offensive line. Oliver rushed for 582 yards and caught 36 passes during his rookie season, but saw his role decrease after the Chargers drafted Melvin Gordon in the first round of last year’s draft.
