San Diego Chargers tight end Jeff Cumberland’s season is over.
The veteran tight end is out for the year after sustaining a torn Achilles during Friday night’s preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune’s Michael Gehlken.
This is the second time Cumberland has torn his Achilles tendon. The first injury occurred in 2011 when Cumberland was a member of the New York Jets.
Cumberland signed with the Chargers this offseason after six seasons with the Jets. Cumberland was mainly expected to serve in a depth role behind legendary tight end Antonio Gates and rookie Hunter Henry.
