The poor performance by Los Angeles Rams quarterback Case Keenum in their Monday night opener against the San Francisco 49ers was obvious to everyone, including Keenum.
According to Gary Klein of the Los Angles Times Keenum explained that he was way too anxious on the field.
“I think I was seeing ghosts,” Keenum said to Klein. “I was seeing things that weren’t there. I wasn’t trusting myself and my abilities.”
He went 17-for-35 for 130 yards, with no touchdowns and 2 interceptions. The 49ers stacked the box all night against 2015 rookie of the year, Rams running back Todd Gurley, and Keenum still couldn’t find any success in the air.
The Rams were shut out 28-0 and managed 185 total net yards of offense.
N0. 1 overall draft pick Jared Goff was not active for the opener because the Rams are trying to bring him along slowly, but he did not play well in the preseason. He went 22-for-49 for 232 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.
He may have to be thrown into the fire if Keenum’s play on Sunday resembles anything like Monday night. The Rams backup quarterback is their third-round pick from last season, Sean Mannion. In 2015 he threw 7 regular-season passes, completing six of them for 31 yards.
