The Los Angles Rams will not have Pro Bowl kicker Greg Zuerlein for the rest of this season.
The Rams announced that Zuerlein has been placed on injured reserve with a back injury. They signed Dan Wilken on Wednesday to attempt to fill in for Zuerlein.
Zuerlein, also known as Legatron, has been outstanding for the Rams. He leads in the NFL in total made field-goal attempts with 30, and is fourth in percentage of field-goal attempts made at 95 percent. This year was also the first time that he has been named to the Pro Bowl in his six-year NFL career.
The Rams have been one of the surprise teams in the NFL in 2017, holding a two-game lead on the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC West standings at 10-4. They are one win away from securing franchise’s first playoff berth since 2004 when they were in St. Louis.
Quarterback Jared Goff, running back Todd Gurley and defensive tackle Aaron Donald have been outstanding for the Rams, but a dependable kicker is especially important during the playoffs.
A road-matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles could easily be decided by a field goal.
