The Dolphins got a little bit of good news ahead of their huge Week 2 matchup with the Patriots, as defensive end Mario Williams made his triumphant return to practice. Unfortunately, not all is right in Miami just yet, as center Mike Pouncey has been ruled out for Sunday per Armando Salguero for the Miami Herald.
Call the injury report a mixed bag then.
Williams’ status was up in the air after sustaining a concussion during the Dolphins’ hard-fought loss to the Seahawks last week. Then just in the nick of time, the four-time Pro Bowler was cleared to rejoin the team on Friday, practicing in full, and looks like he will be available on game day. No doubt, Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was thrilled to hear.
Far less surprising is Pouncey still won’t be back from the ankle injury that’s been keeping him out of action for almost a month. The fact that he still wasn’t practicing earlier in the week was a sign he wasn’t going to make it, but Friday closed the book on the possibility for a Week 2 return.
The Dolphins would love to have all hands on deck, as the Patriots should be vulnerable with Garoppolo under center. Then again, New England is dealing with its share of injuries as well, which could make for a classically tight AFC East rivalry.
In other Dolphins injury news, wide receiver DeVante Parker practiced every day this week in a limited capacity, and the second-year player might potentially be in line to make his 2016 debut.
