New England Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett injured his right ankle during the Patriots’ opening touchdown drive on Sunday. He laid on the field in agony for several minutes, commanding medical attention from the Patriots sideline. “S*** hurt,” Bennett told reporters after the game.
While Bennett remained on the turf, the Patriots medical staff apparently asked the Pro Bowl tight end if he needed assistance leaving the field. That question teed up this gem from Bennett:
They asked me if I needed a cart and I’m just like, “S***, I’m going to look so weak,” Bennett said after the game. “And I’ve been watching Luke Cage — you know, he’s a bulletproof brother from Marvel. And I’m like, what would Luke Cage do right now? He’d get up and keep bouncing around. I was like, I got to get off and just run off the field and come back into the game.”
Bennett played close to bulletproof throughout the remainder of the game, hauling in 6 catches for 67 yards and all three of Tom Brady’s touchdown passes. Luke Cage would be proud.
