The New England Patriots extended one of their linebackers, but it wasn’t Jamie Collins.
The Patriots have signed depth linebacker Jonathan Freeny to a two-year extension, according to a report from NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport.
An undrafted free agent out of Rutgers, Freeny spent his first four seasons with the Miami Dolphins before landing with the Patriots last season. He recorded 50 tackles in seven starts and was an important special teams player.
Meanwhile, Collins still awaits a long-term deal with the team as he enters his fourth season. Collins has been a preeminent defender on New England’s front seven since 2014, when he racked up 114 tackles and four sacks.
