For many years Houston Texans defensive tackle Vince Wilfork was the anchor of the New England Patriots defense. As other players on those defenses began to age and their time with the team ended, Wilfork became a leader and helped get the defense back to a strong place. Head coach Bill Belichick was very complimentary of him.
“I have all the respect in the world for Vince,” Belichick said via the Houston Chronicle’s Brian T. Smith.
Wilfork’s time passed with the Patriots just like the Ty Laws and the Richard Seymours before him. That’s the way they do business, get rid of player a year early rather than a year late.
Wilfork said last week that he is considering retiring at the end of this season. If he goes through with it, he’ll have a great experience on his way out the door, playing his former team in a playoff game.
