The 6-1 New England Patriots can build a comfortable 3-game lead atop the AFC East standings with a victory over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday afternoon. New England will visit the newly-named New Era Field with a strong offensive arsenal.
After pro bowl tight end Martellus Bennett missed Friday’s practice—he’s been dealing with an ankle injury he sustained on the Patriots’ opening drive in Week 5 at Cleveland—the talented pass-catcher will be active for Week 8 in Buffalo.
Wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell will not be part of quarterback Tom Brady’s receiving corps on Sunday, however. Mitchell saw extended opportunities on the outside against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 7, playing 31 snaps and seeing several chances to line up opposite Julian Edelman in 2-wide receiver sets.
The other notable inactive is rookie cornerback Cyrus Jones. The Alabama product will not dress for his third-straight game following his ejection against the Browns for punching Cleveland wideout Andrew Hawkins. Second-year corner Eric Rowe’s solid play has also been a factor.
Other Patriots inactives are: running back Tyler Gaffney, recently-acquired linebacker Kyle Van Noy, defensive tackle Woodrow Hamilton, running back D.J. Foster and offensive tackle LaAdrian Waddle.
