The New England Patriots made a minor move in the backfield on Monday, releasing running back Tyler Gaffney.
That news came via Twitter from ESPN Boston’s Field Yates.
Gaffney was a sixth-round draft choice of the Carolina Panthers in 2014. He sustained a knee injury and was subsequently signed by the Patriots while on injured reserve. Gaffney spent 2015 on the injured reserve for the Patriots as well.
He spent one week on the Patriots 53-man roster in 2016 but was inactive for that game against Buffalo. He spent the rest of the year on the practice squad.
A Stanford University product, Gaffney was also drafted in pro baseball, chosen in the 24th round by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He never signed.
