Mexico. Montana. The Derby. Vegas for the ESPYs and, of course, the cover of ESPN the Magazine’s “Body Issue.” For a guy playing on a team that takes, “No Days Off” New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman has been quite busy away from football.
Late July looms, though, and almost instinctually Edelman has transitioned into football mode. On Saturday, he hosted a camp in Danvers, Mass., for youngsters and talked about it to Mark Daniels of the Providence Journal.
“There’s been a lot, but I’ve been able to train and really work on [football] each day,” Edelman told Daniels. “That’s what happens, I guess, when you go out and win the last game. You know, I have my little daughter. I’ve been trying to spend a lot of time with her and juggling all this stuff. It’s been busy.”
Training camp is coming. Edelman, at 31, is well into the back nine of his career. He understands the NFL calendar. He’s fresh off signing a two-year contract extension to keep him in New England through 2019. He’s hungry to get going.
“Yeah, that’s what time of year it is. Late July is football season,” Edelman said.
The Patriots basically have one more week off before things start to stir at Gillette Stadium.
