Patriots fans can breathe a collective sigh of relief.
Rob Gronkowski will return to the practice field Wednesday, according to NFL Network’s Courtney Fallon.
Gronkowski missed New England’s season opener against the Arizona Cardinals to recover from a hamstring injury sustained during a joint practice with the Chicago Bears. Gronkowski didn’t make the trip to Arizona, which was surprising to many.
Martellus Bennett played almost every snap for New England with Gronkowski out of the lineup, but was primarily used as an edge blocker. Bennett caught 3 passes for 14 yards during New England’s 23-21 upset.
Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will certainly welcome Gronkowski back into the lineup. Although the first time starter wasn’t too shabby in his true debut, throwing for 264 yards and a touchdown against the Cardinals.
New England found a way to pass its toughest test despite the absence of Gronkowski and quarterback Tom Brady. If cleared to play, Gronkowski’s presence will only help Garoppolo and the Patriots offense against Miami this weekend.
