The Pittsburgh Steelers appeared to regain momentum with a mid-third quarter field goal, trimming the New England Patriots’ lead to 14-13.
Only minutes later, the Patriots quickly responded. Tom Brady had plenty of time in the pocket before firing a 36-yard bullet to tight end Rob Gronkowski streaking up the middle of the field. When you single-cover Gronkowski, you’re doomed to be humiliated.
Gronkowski rumbled his way into the end zone, giving the Patriots a 20-13 advantage. The score is Gronkowski’s 68th of his career, tying the Patriots’ franchise record previously owned by Stanley Morgan.
Of note, only 67 of Gronkowski’s scores have come through the air. The pro bowl tight end actually ran in a touchdown back in 2011.
