Rodney Harrison, a two-time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots, did not hold back when talking about Rob Gronkowski’s cheap shot against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
Gronkowski’s frustrations with the way that he is officiated boiled over after a play, and he put all of his body weight in a diving shot to the back of Bills rookie cornerback Tre’Davious White’s head. That blow resulted in a penalty and a concussion for White. Gronkowski did apologize after the game.
That apology didn’t soften Harrison’s opinion who believes that Gronkowski needs to be suspended.
“If you do something like that to someone in the streets, you’re going to jail,” Harrison said on NBC Sports’ Football Night in America on Sunday night. “He deserves to be suspended one game.”
Now, Harrison saying this could give some people pause because he was well known as arguably the dirtiest player in the NFL when he played for the Patriots. However, that doesn’t mean he is incorrect in his strongly delivered opinion.
While the entire game of football would result in police intervention if it wasn’t a recognized sport, Gronkowski has to be suspended. He caused a head injury with a dirty play. That cannot be tolerated in the NFL.
