The San Francisco 49ers sent a second-round pick to the New England Patriots in exchange for Jimmy Garoppolo in late-October and may have completely altered the course of their franchise in doing so.

After starting the season 1-10, the 49ers have won all three games that Garoppolo has started. On Sunday in a win over the Tennessee Titans, Garoppolo drove the team down the field for a game-winning drive in the closing seconds and looked the part of a superstar quarterback in the process.

And NFL Films was there to catch all the intricate little details that go into such a perfectly-executed drive.

Garoppolo went over the two-minute drive script moments before taking the field and took each intended target at wide receiver aside for each of the three respective plays they planned to run to go over the nuances of how they should run their routes against what the Titans defense had shown thus far. And, as the video shows, he absolutely nails every aspect of it.

The result was a snappy drive that ended in a last-second field goal to win the game by Robbie Gould. And Patriots fans will notice a lot of Tom Brady’s influence in how detail-oriented Garoppolo has become.

In a way, that’s gotta be bittersweet. Brady looks like he can still stick around for several more years, so they did well to get a premium pick for a quarterback who ideally wouldn’t see the light of day for quite some time.

However, Garoppolo could have made the transition when Brady does finally decide to retire seamless and a second-round pick could seem like a pittance compared to what Garoppolo could have theoretically become in New England. But 49ers fans certainly won’t be complaining.

They got what they believe can be a franchise quarterback for an early second-rounder. And even though he’s only been in the system for six weeks, he’s showing a mastery of that offense on par with some of the best in the league and this video shows it clearly.
