New Orleans Saints rookie wide receiver Michael Thomas has been turning heads during his first training camp.
It seems like every week Thomas is making a highlight play. In fact, he most recently made an awesome one-handed grab during a joint practice with the Houston Texans on Thursday.
Thomas has the makings to become one of Drew Brees’ favorite targets in the Big Easy. He’s even garnering praise from one the game’s top receivers. Houston Texans wideout DeAndre Hopkins has gotten a chance to watch Thomas firsthand during these joint practices. He likes what he sees, a lot.
“I like his game a lot,” Hopkins said, according to NOLA.com’s Josh Katzenstein. “He reminds me of myself, honestly. The guy is not a very talked-about guy, but he goes out there and makes plays. Coming out of the combine, he was one of my favorite receivers. (Even) without me talking to him before, I liked his game a lot.”
The Saints would be thrilled to get a similar player as Hopkins, who finished third in the league in receptions (111) and receiving yards (1,521) last season. Thomas and Brandin Cooks could make for an outstanding tandem that the Saints haven’t had during Brees’ prolific tenure.
The second-round pick out of Ohio State might not become a carbon copy of the dynamic Hopkins. Yet, it’s safe to say Thomas’ future is bright.
