Victor Cruz’s return to game action will most likely happen Saturday night in the annual showdown with the New York Jets.
After a smooth week of practice, New York Giants coach Ben McAdoo said he is “very optimistic” Cruz will play Saturday night, according to ESPN’s Josina Anderson.
Cruz was cleared to practice fully earlier this week. Saturday’s game will mark Cruz’s first appearance in a game since Oct. 12, 2014, when Cruz tore his patellar tendon in his right knee during a game against the Philadelphia Eagles. His anticipated return last season never occurred, as he missed the entire 2015 campaign with a calf injury.
It’s fitting that Cruz’s return comes against the Jets. One of his best career highlights came against Gang Green in 2011, when he housed a 99-yard touchdown catch during a pivotal Week 16 victory over the Jets. The Giants went on to win their second Super Bowl in four years that season.
