The New York Giants will be without wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. for their season opener against the Dallas Cowboys.
Beckham is on New York’s inactives list. Others joining him are rookie running back Wayne Gallman, linebacker Keenan Robinson, offensive lineman D.J. Fluker, quarterback Davis Webb, wide receiver Tavarres King and tight end Matt LaCosse.
Beckham has been dealing with an injured left ankle since the Giants’ second preseason game.
That means free-agent wide receiver Brandon Marshall will have to be a force for the Giants on Sunday night. In 2015, he caught 14 touchdown passes, and that is the player the Giants need to see on the field.
It’s only Week 1, but the Cowboys and Giants likely will battle all season for control of the NFC East. Both teams have Super Bowl aspirations, which will make their games against each other must-see TV.
Beckham’s ankle should be healthy when the Cowboys and Giants play again.
