This has been an injured-riddled season for NFL quarterbacks. New York Jets quarterback Josh McCown became the latest signal caller to go down with a major injury.
McCown broke his left hand in Week 14’s loss to the Denver Broncos. Jets coach Todd Bowles revealed on Monday that McCown’s injury will end the quarterback’s season.
“He’s been leading us all year offensively. For him to go down this late in the season, it’s a next-man-up mentality. The next guy has to step up. But you feel sorry for Josh. He’s having a very good year,” Bowles said, per Brian Costello of the New York Post.
Quarterback Bryce Petty will start for the Jets in Week 15.
McCown, 38, was having a surprisingly good year in New York. He had a 67.3 completion percentage, 18 touchdown passes and 9 interceptions, resulting in a 94.5 passer rating.
The 5-8 Jets take on the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
