All NFL players seem to have a problem with their ratings in EA Sports’ Madden NFL video game. The latest rendition of the franchise, Madden NFL 17, is no exception.
Some New York Jets players were asked about their ratings, and naturally they felt they were underrated.
Running back Matt Forte was a prime candidate to see his rating decrease as he hits his age 30 season. But a free fall out of the 90s down to an overall rating of just 86 (out of 99) bothered him.
“80s! I’m in the 80s?” Forte exclaimed after hearing his rating.
Defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson is coming off a career season, but the Madden evaluators weren’t as impressed, giving Wilkerson an 89 overall rating. That didn’t sit well with “Big Mo.” He probably has a gripe.
“That’s very disrespectful,” Wilkerson said. “Coming off the best season of my career, 12 sacks, first Pro Bowl. They got something messed up at EA Sports.”
Forte was even more flabbergasted by his speed rating, which was also an 86.
“My daughter’s speed is better than an 86,” Forte said while holding his daughter Nala.
Wilkerson was even disrespected by his spin move rating, which was a 10. That’s probably what it should be for a 6-foot-4, 315-pound behemoth, but Wilkerson explained his spin move isn’t appreciated.
“I’m an athletic guy,” Wilkerson said. “Guess they haven’t seen my spin move. So I’ll have to pull that out this year I guess.”
The Jets aren’t the only ones complaining about the ratings. Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant complained about being ranked an 90 overall.
“It is what it is,” Bryant said, according to the The Dallas Morning News’ Jon Machota. “We’re just going to see what happens. Like I told Madden, they put me at 90, I’m not worried about that. That rating going to shoot up real quick, you best believe that.”
Luckily, Madden now has the capabilities of updating ratings throughout the season. So, if Bryant, Forte and Wilkerson perform on the field, they will garner more respect on the virtual gridiron too.
