It seems the Raiders have made their intention to move known — and to where specifically — with paperwork filed Aug. 20.
The report comes courtesy of Darren Heitner of Forbes, who observes while a trademark filing for “Las Vegas Raiders” does not make the move official, it could be a sign of what’s to come. A move has seemingly been inevitable for some time now.
The Raiders have been exploring a potential move to Vegas for awhile. Los Angeles also remains a possibility, although that’s dependent upon whether the Chargers pass up on the opportunity to go there.
As Heitner notes, the Chargers have also filed for an “LA” trademark, but are presently still trying to work out a stadium deal in San Diego.
Raiders owner Mark Davis has sounded serious about his bid to take the team to Las Vegas, and with a possible new stadium being built there, it will continue to be an attractive option. The NFL has been against putting a team in Vegas for some time, but apparently that isn’t enough to stop the Raiders from making preparations.
