Eagles DL Fletcher Cox being sued for stealing another man’s wife
Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher Cox has gotten used to making headlines, predominantly for blowing up backfields as one of the NFL’s best interior defensive linemen. However, being the subject of tabloid headlines probably feels pretty new to him.
On Nov. 22, TMZ reported that Cox was being sued by a North Carolina man for alienation of affection with the headline, “You ruined my marriage WHEN YOU BANGED MY WIFE!”
According to the Charlotte Observer, Joshua Jeffords of Huntersville, North Carolina, claims that Cox destroyed his marriage and is suing to recuperate over $50,000 in damages from a stay in a mental health facility after his wife left him.
In the state of North Carolina, grounds for alienation of affection are granted when you can prove that two people love each other and that love was destroyed due to the malicious intentions of a third party. Traditionally that means infidelity and Jeffords supplied the courts with copies of lewd text messages from Cox to his wife.
Jeffords’ wife allegedly met Cox when she was on a business trip to Philadelphia and the two maintained contact after. Jeffords claims that after he confronted her about the affair, she went on to see him three more times before eventually putting her things in storage and moving to Philadelphia.
Cox hasn’t yet responded formally to the suit.
