The NFL regular season is a long, winding path. So forgive Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison for forgetting that his team played the Kansas City Chiefs earlier in the season.
Harrison was asked whether there was any lingering effect from the first meeting between these teams. The veteran linebacker seemed confused by the question.
“We played them this year? Didn’t know,” Harrison admitted in a video posted by KansasCity.com.
Whoops. Hey, Week 4 was a long time ago, but it’s surprising that Harrison forgot about one of Pittsburgh’s best victories of the season. The Steelers destroyed the Chiefs at Heinz Field, 43-14, and Harrison posted 2 tackles in the win.
But the teams went in different directions after that game. The Chiefs won 10 of their final 12 games and won the AFC West crown, while the Steelers dropped four of their next five before rattling off a seven-game winning streak to conclude the regular season. That win streak reached eight games last week as the Steelers dominated the Miami Dolphins in their wild card round matchup. The Chiefs had the week off as the No. 2 seed.
The rematch will be played at Arrowhead Stadium, however. Hopefully, it’ll be a much more memorable game.
