The Pittsburgh Steelers announced that linebacker Ryan Shazier is back in Pittsburgh.
In the announcement, Steelers’ director of communications Burt Lauten said that Shazier is at UPMC medical center receiving treatment. He also said in the statement that there will be no update on Shazier’s condition until after further evaluation.
Shazier suffered a frightening injury during the Steelers Monday night matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. While tackling Bengals wide receiver Josh Malone, Shazier made impact with the top of his helmet.
He fell to the turf, grabbed for his back and he appeared not able to move his legs. On Tuesday, Dr. David Okonkwo and Dr. Joseph Cheng at University of Cincinnati Medical Center said that Shazier’s spine injury was being evaluated.
While still at that hospital on Tuesday evening, Shazier sent out a tweet thanking all those who have shown concern about his condition.
Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert said on Tuesday that Shazier’s injury will not require surgery, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Chris Adamski.
