The Pittsburgh Steelers are rolling right along this season and look to be in the elite class of the NFL. Not only are they legitimate Super Bowl contenders, but they also have a huge lead in the AFC North as well.
Coming off their 31-28 win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 12, there are multiple players who deserve a ton of praise. But defensive end Cam Heyward had himself an exceptionally special day in this one. He racked up 6 total tackles, with 2 sacks and was a force for the defensive line the entire game.
After the superb outing, Hayward was honored by the NFL and it’s something that has even more special meaning than you’d think on the surface. As the NFL’s Senior Director of Football Communications Randall Liu pointed out, Heyward now joins Troy Polamalu as the only Steelers player to win multiple Defensive Player of the Week Awards in the same season in the past 20 years.
That’s pretty incredible to think about, and a lot of praise needs to go to both Heyward and the Steelers defense as a whole. Heyward is having by far one of the best seasons of his NFL career, as he’s racked up 38 tackles, 9 sacks, and a forced fumble through 11 games. He’s already surpassed his highest single-season sack total and is on pace for a monster final stat line.
