Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier has confirmed that he’s dealing with a sprained MCL, according to the TimesOnline.
Shazier initially sustained a knee injury in Week 1, and then aggravated the injury further in Week 3 against the Philadelphia Eagles. A sprained MCL, depending on its severity, can take four or more weeks to fully heal, so there’s no question Shazier came back too quickly from the injury.
Shazier himself isn’t admitting that, saying that he was a fine in one game after the injury. Now it’s unclear when he will return to action, though both he and the Steelers hope he can return before the team’s Week 8 bye, though there is no commitment to that date.
Injuries have become a theme for Shazier, who has missed 13 regular season games over the course of his three-year career. It’s unclear if this knowledge led to him trying to bring himself back early from the injury. Whatever the case, his time on the sideline will continue to into Week 6.
