Eight Pittsburgh Steelers made the Pro Bowl, but that group does not include defensive end Cam Heyward.
He is having the best season of his NFL career. Heyward leads the Steelers with 10 sacks this season, and is eighth-best defensive lineman in the NFL according to Pro Football Focus.
However, that still wasn’t enough to get Heyward to his first Pro Bowl after seven seasons in the NFL. He didn’t want to talk much about the Pro Bowl when he was asked if he was bothered by not making it, but he also didn’t avoid the question.
“Do I even have to answer that?” Heyward said, via Penn Live. “Of course, but not my choice, whatever.”
The interior defensive linemen on the AFC Pro Bowl team are Geno Atkins of the Cincinnati Bengals, Jurrell Casey of the Tennessee Titans and Malik Jackson of the Jacksonville Jaguars. The defensive ends are Joey Bosa of the Los Angeles Chargers, Calais Campbell of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Khalil Mack of the Oakland Raiders.
It is likely that at least one of those players will not play in the game, and Heyward would be one of the first players asked to be an alternate. However, he probably hopes that he won’t be able to accept the invitation because of a Super Bowl schedule conflict.
