A Week 9 return has always been the targeted date for Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Cam Heyward.
Heyward’s workout on Wednesday was a necessary step to achieve that.
The Steelers defensive end did individual drills on his own Wednesday. Heyward ran 20 sprints, according to Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Heyward’s plan is train at the team’s facility during Pittsburgh’s bye week.
Barring a setback, the sixth-year lineman is expected to return to the field Nov. 6 versus the Baltimore Ravens.
The Steelers defensive line has been vulnerable with Heyward out of the lineup. Pittsburgh let Jay Ajayi run all over them for 204 yards and the following week LeGarrette Blount pounded the team with 127 rushing yards.
Heyward’s presence should help the Steelers’ soft run defense.
Pittsburgh’s starting defensive end has 17 tackles and 3 sacks through five games this season.
