Steelers LB Ryan Shazier carted off field after scary injury against Bengals

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier has become an integral part of a revitalized Steelers defense. But his importance on the field gave way to what he means to his teammates as a man when he went down with a scary-looking injury against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football.

Shazier made a relatively pedestrian looking tackle on Bengals wide receiver Josh Malone, but appeared to suffer some sort of serious injury in the process. He immediately dropped to the ground before reaching to his lower back and rolling over in clear discomfort.

What was particularly concerning was the fact that Shazier never actually moved his legs from the time he was injured to the time he was carted off the field. Even when he rolled over, he appeared to have no control over the motor function in his lower extremities.

The Steelers players were extremely emotional as they watched their middle linebacker leaving the field. He’s currently being evaluated for a back injury at a local hospital in Cincinnati and the Steelers announced that his official status was unavailable at this time.

According to multiple reports, Shazier was taken to a Cincinnati-area hospital.

Stay tuned to for further developments in this breaking story. And best wishes to Shazier, his family, friends and the Steelers medical staff as they attempt to treat this injury.
