San Francisco 49ers guard Anthony Davis mysteriously appeared on the team’s final injury report of the week Saturday. But Davis isn’t injured; he’s contemplating retirement again two days before San Francisco’s season kicks off.
Davis missed Saturday’s practice for a personal matter, according to The Sacramento Bee’s Matt Barrows, after practicing the last three days. According to The Mercury News’ Cam Inman, Davis is considering retirement.
Davis is the starting right guard and also would serve as the backup tackle on each side if an injury occurs. Andrew Tiller would likely step in if Davis misses the game or retires.
Davis returned to the 49ers this offseason after deciding to retire in June 2015. He was expected to make his return Monday night after being away a year-and-a-half.
The 49ers open their season against the visiting Los Angeles Rams on Monday night at Levi’s Stadium.
