Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota fought through injury during Week 14 against the Arizona Cardinals.
Titans coach Mike Mularkey said that Mariota injured a knee early in the game but continued to play, via to the Tennessean’s Jason Wolf.
That injury may have hampered Mariota’s performance, because he was 16-31 for 159 yards, no touchdowns and 2 interceptions. The Titans lost to the Cardinals 12-7, falling to 8-5 on the season, and out of first place in the AFC South with the Jacksonville Jaguars defeating the Seattle Seahawks 30-24.
The Titans are hoping that they aren’t experiencing deja vu with this Mariota injury.
In 2016, they won three consecutive games towards the end of the season to put themselves atop the AFC South. However, Mariota suffered a fractured fibula during their Week 16 loss to the Jaguars. The Titans won the next game, but ended up missing the playoffs.
Mariota’s injury isn’t the only one with the potential to change the NFL playoff picture. Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz had to leave their 43-35 victory against the Los Angeles Rams with a left knee injury.
Wentz was not able to return to the field.
